Ocian!

Hey, everybody! This week was quite the adventure for me! This was my first week here in Ocian, Praia Grande! And it was a great week. Sister Sanders is fantastic! She is always super happy and energetic! We have about the same amount of time in the mission, so it´s a little different. But the good thing is we both understand just about everything now, so that´s a relief.

This area is also on the beach. Really almost my entire mission is on the beach, but yeah. It´s a little bigger than my other area, and we don´t live in our area, so we´re walking a lot. But it´s good to walk a lot because we have more time to contact people on the streets. The ward is the biggest in the whole mission, and the members are really strong too. This ward will probably split here soon, and we´re trying to help that happen.

I got to know a lot of new people here. We´re not teaching a whole lot of people at the moment, but those that we are teaching are golden! We´re teaching Luiz, and he is amazing. He has 19 years, and he learns really fast. He is living with his cousin who is a member, so he has a lot of support already. He is going to be baptized next Friday, so that´s exciting! We´re also teaching Léa. She has a lot of faith already, and really just needed somewhere to put her faith. She´s the type of person that likes to show her gratitude through food. That´s really common here in this part of Brazil. But this week was awesome, and I learned a lot, and I´ll have more things to share next week.

It´s still not letting me send photos, sorry.

Have a fabulous week! Tchau!

Transfers!

Hello everybody! I hope you are all doing well this week! Good news with the change in policy is that I might have more time to email now! But first things first, we had transfers this morning! So Sister Ortiz and I were both transferred. She went way up north, practically to Rio de Janeiro. And I am now in Ocian, Praia Grande! I’m in the big beach :) My new companion is Sister Sanders! We were already in the same district in my first transfer, so we were really excited to be companions. She is really really sweet, cute, and energetic! She´s from Missouri, and has about 8 months in the mission. Only a little bit more than me.

Other than transfers, this week was really good! We had splits on Wed, and I got to spend the day with Sister Bouwhuis. I always learn a lot. On Saturday, we made Caldo Verde which is a yummy dish made with kale or something with an investigator, Brenda, and her mom, Mara, which was fun and kind of different. I took a lot of photos this week, but the computer isn´t letting me send them.

But here´s some pictures Brenda sent me of when we made Caldo Verde.

Com amor,

Investigators and Cows

Bom dia, gente.

I hope that you are all doing well and had a wonderful week. This was an interesting one full of ups and downs. We were able to find 10 new people to teach this week, but this only happened because many of the people we´re already teaching are sick, on vacation, or simply are never home. But it´s always exciting to find people who really have been searching for the truth and want to hear what we have to say. On Saturday, Sister Ortiz and I miraculously ran into two people on the street that we had previously been teaching. For various reasons, we haven´t been able to teach them anymore, but the Lord was merciful and placed them in our path, and we can teach them again! It´s amazing to see how Heavenly Father really is a God of second, third, and infinite chances.

Thankfully, it was much cooler this week because of the rain. This week is the last week of the transfers which is kinda crazy and kind of sad. I would love to stay here in Enseada with Sister Ortiz for another transfer, but the Lord knows what´s best for us. And it´s not always what we want, but actually something we don´t know yet. We just need to make the best of the week.

A quick explanation about the photos. The cows live across the street from us, and every once in a while we pet them and feed them weeds. But for like 2 weeks they disappeared and it was very sad. But they returned! So we took pictures. Thanks for taking the time to read my emails and write to me. I love you all, and I´m grateful for your support, love, and prayers. Até próximo p-day.

Tchau,

6 Months!

Me and Suzy, the sassiest 4 year old in the world!

Our street flooded again!

A Jaka tree in the Favelas

Hey everyone,

I´ve been hearing how cold it is in Ohio; and right now I´m enjoying my 1 hour per week of air conditioning. It´s very nice.  As of last week, I am one third the way through my mission. That is really, really weird. One year from now, I´ll be a normal person again. It goes by really fast. This week was full of walking around in the hot sun, but it really was good. Last night, we had a family home evening with Juliana and her daughters, which was really good. Juliana is going through a really difficult time in her life, and she was looking to us to help her. It´s strange, because we really just have 20 years and we don´t really know that much. But, at the same time, we are representatives of Jesus Christ, and with the Holy Ghost on our side, we can help.

I love you all, and I´m sorry that I can't write to you all personally every week with lots of details about what I do and stuff, but I´m doing my best.

Tchau,
Sister Herron
